140,000 people waiting more than a year for routine NHS operations due to coronavirus - BBC News

The huge impact that coronavirus is having on the NHS has been revealed in figures showing a huge number of people waiting more than a year for routine treatment and operations.

In September almost 140,000 people had been waiting more than a year for non-urgent operations like hip and knee replacements. That compares with 16,000 people on the waiting list before the pandemic began. They are the worst figures in England for 12 years.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by health editor Hugh Pym.
